My creative juices have slowed a bit lately. I recently started on my second novel, and for weeks was pounding out almost two thousand new words a day. Then I stalled, right in the middle.
As soon as I can get those creative juices flowing again, I will begin our collective discussion on Creating a Fantasy Story, using the setting we created here over the past few months. Until then, I think this blog could use a little bit of controversy. All I seem to write about is fantasy lit, zombies and the occasional coffee themed rant. Time to go off topic a little.
I am an atheist.
That’s right, I do not believe in god. Any god. Your god, their god, any god. In fact, you are an atheist too, I just believe in one fewer gods than you. And once you understand why you reject all those other gods, you will understand why I reject yours.
For those of you who know me, this is no big revelation. I have always been very vocal about my beliefs. And I have surrounded myself with friends, who if they are not like-minded, are at least very, very tolerant and open minded. If you are counted as my friend you can rest assured you have an open mind. Not so open that your brain would flop out, but still admirably open.
But from time to time, I come across a person who is not nearly so tolerant. And it is to these people that I am speaking to today. I reject your god. I have heard every possible argument for his existence, and I reject them as fallacious or illogical. I am an atheist by choice. This is an informed decision. In fact, according to a recent Pew research poll, Atheists and Agnostics are proven to be much more knowledgeable about the bible as you religious folk. That’s right, I studied religion before I rejected it. Have you?
And I am a good person. I pay my taxes. I keep my yard nice and maintain my house. I help my children with their homework. I do not eat babies. I do not lie, cheat, steal, rape or murder. Religion is not necessary to be a good person. In fact, I maintain that atheists are generally more moral than most religiously minded people. We atheists do not fly planes into buildings. Atheists do not strive to take away the rights of people whose lifestyles we disagree with.
And there are more of us than you realize.
From time to time, I will post the occasional discussion on the non-existence of god, as well as comments on the idiocy of religious behavior.
Until then, this little coming out will simply have to do to keep some activity on here.
Thank you for reading, and I welcome all comments, even and especially contrasting opinions.
